Observations & meditations on the day-to-day
Freedom from oppression.
Freedom from oppression is so self-evidently valuable that we often exalt it into an absolute virtue. It isn’t. An excess of it – the almost complete absence of structure that a number of my teenage clients sometimes blindly crave – can cripple. Freedom is at its best when it is seen as freedom of choice: the freedom to choose a structure, not to live outside the world of structure altogether.
